Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics is a dental specialty that treats dental and facial irregularities. Most of the orthodontic practices are limited to general orthodontics and dento-facial orthopedics. An orthodontist is responsible for beautifying the facial elements by harmonizing the teeth and the jaws.

Why do we need Braces?

Several reasons can lead to the misalignment of teeth which may further give rise to issues like speech defects, difficulty chewing and inability to maintain adequate oral hygiene.

Below are some of the most common issues an orthodontist is successfully capable of treating

Overcrowding

This is one of the most common problems an Orthodontist usually deals with. Lack of jawbone interrupts the growth of adult teeth. Thus new teeth are usually not in alignment with the existing set of teeth. The orthodontist works towards realigning the teeth using several unobtrusive devices.

Anteroposterior deviations

In some instances, the upper set of teeth is positioned much further than the lower. This problem can cause a huge amount of discomfort while articulating and chewing. It can be corrected by aopproaching an orthodontist.

Aesthetic Issue

Malocclusions or a bad bite may result in the disfiguration of the face to some extent. In such a case, the orthodontist carries out a surgery to restructure the jaw, teeth and the lips with an intention to help you get back that lost smile.

Which is the correct age at which teeth should be treated orthodontically?

Treatments can usually commerce once the child is 12-13 years, when all permanent teeth have errupted. But orthodontic treatment is not just for teens, as teeth can be moved at any age. In fact more and more adults are having orthodontic treatment to improve the health & look of their smile.

Which cases can orthodontic treatment repair?

Types of braces

Metal braces

Most commonly used braces.

The result outcome or prognosis of treatment remains same as any other braces, the only disadvange is that they are unaesthetic.

Ceramic braces

They match your tooth color, and hence are less evident. Treatment duration & prognosis remains the same as with metal braces. But it's more cosmetically approved.

Lingual

They are placed on the inside or lingual surface of teeth so they are completely invisible from outside. It is preferred in adults, because maintaining hygiene would be slightly difficult as compared to children. And also it is preferred by people who need to be more presentable socially, like actors, models, public relations personnel etc.

Invisalign braces

It's a virtually invisible teeth straightening and also removable as opposed to other form of braces, its more smooth & comfortable instead of sharp metal braces.

Any patient undergoing orthodontic treatment must maintain a good oral hygiene& avoid hard & sticky food, in order to prevent teeth with braces, to get decayed.
